Spring x2

After the last few years of battling floods and unseasonably cold, damp springs, we are reveling in the beautiful weather we’ve been blessed with this year. Warm, dry, and now a nice rain to usher in the weekend. Tulips have bloomed, the lilacs, plum, cherry and apple blossoms have bloomed as well. I have a photo from May 10 a couple years ago --lilacs, tulips and apple blossoms, so we are a full 3 weeks ahead of then. Spring flowers are so welcome, like an old friend visiting, but it’s hard to let people know when which flowers will be showing up in the spring.

Here’s what is showing up so far--no blooms yet, but plants coming up strong--lady’s mantle, buplureum, lillies, dahlias, daisies, lupine, columbine, yarrow, phlox, baptisia, delphinium, peonies, catmint, clematis, honeysuckle, and veronica. And lots of weeds/grasses coming up, too, but we’re trying to stay ahead of them. Our normal last frost date isn’t until mid-May, so I think it's safe to start planting after the cold this weekend. Here’s the list for the year: ageratum, zinnia, craspedia, delphinium, ranunculus, celosia, rudbeckia, eryngium , lupine, dianthus, snapdragon, verbena, lisianthus, cosmos, chocolate cosmos, campanula, sunflowers and kale. That's all I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure I've forgotten some.
